ACNE SCAR SPECIALIST
You needn’t live with bothersome acne scars. They can now be treated with new non-ablative laser technology, provided by the experts at the Advanced Laser and Cosmetic Center, located in both West Chester, Cincinnati, Ohio and Centerville, Dayton, Ohio.
WHAT CAUSES ACNE SCARS TO FORM?
Acne occurs when the pores in your skin become filled with oil, dead skin cells and bacteria. Eventually, these pores get inflamed and burst. When this occurs, and the pore wall bursts deep in the skin, the infected debris seeps into the tissues and creates a lesion. Scarring occurs as the body creates collagen to repair this damage. The deeper the ruptures, the deeper the scarring. When these ruptures heal, major changes occur in the skin’s texture. Some scars look like tiny ‘ice pick’ holes, while others, called “boxcar scars,” appear larger with vertical sides. At the Advanced Laser and Cosmetic Center, our experienced professionals can customize a treatment plan to fit your particular issue. Deeper and more extensive scars generally require multiple treatments.
HOW ARE ACNE SCARS TREATED AT ADVANCED LASER AND COSMETIC CENTER?
We have achieved wonderful results with Cynosure’s ground-breaking Palomar Ion 1540 fractional laser. This is a non-ablative laser that offers impressive improvement in eliminating or reducing the appearance of scars, without the downtime, risks, or expense of ablative lasers. The treatment works by emitting thousands of tiny, but powerful pulses of laser energy targeted at the acne scar. Only tiny channels into the skin are punctured, (covering a mere fraction of the total treatment area), with zones of untouched skin in between. This triggers the body’s natural healing process, with the production of new collagen, resulting in a smoother tone and texture. Treatment literally occurs from the inside out.
WHAT DOES ACNE SCAR TREATMENT WITH THE PALOMAR ICON LASER ENTAIL?
During treatment, the laser’s hand-piece is applied directly to the skin. It has a built-in cooling system to protect the outer skin and minimize discomfort. During the first 24 hours after treatment, patients typically experience mild redness and swelling. Most patients return to work and other normal daily activities the following day.
HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?
This varies depending on the depth and amount of acne scars being treated, and your particular skin. However, must patients achieve optimal results within 4 to 6 treatments, scheduled three weeks apart.
