BOTOX is made from a purified derivative of the bacteria Clostridium botulinum. When injected under the skin on the face, around the eyes, on the forehead, and between the eyebrows, it eliminates lines and wrinkles. Unlike fillers that plump up wrinkles, BOTOX works by temporarily freezing muscle movement, preventing patients from being able to move the muscles that make crow’s feet and frown lines. In preventing facial lines from being made, BOTOX can also prevent these lines from worsening.
BOTOX results typically appear within 24 to 48 hours following the injections and generally last up to four months. At that point, facial lines gradually return to their pre-treatment appearance, or treatment can be repeated ahead of time.
No medically administered aesthetic treatments have ever been more thoroughly studied than BOTOX. It has been reviewed in more than 400 medical journal articles and has been used in the United States for over 15 years.
BOTOX injections take only minutes to perform and require no downtime. And because the needles used to administer BOTOX are so thin, patients generally describe the sensation as feeling like a tolerable pinch. However, anyone who is especially sensitive or fears needles can have a topical numbing cream applied 30 minutes before their treatment.
We’ve all seen women and men – including celebrities – who have visible ripples, shiny foreheads, and expressionless faces. This is not because of BOTOX, but rather the way and amount in which BOTOX was injected. BOTOX is a technique-sensitive treatment that should only be performed by an experienced professional.
Absolutely. Quite often BOTOX is used to treat crow’s feet, along with Juvederm® to erase marionette lines and plump up the lips. Our experts can recommend which specific fillers will achieve your desired overall aesthetic.
